TATOUINE   13 October 2000

Today we visited Ksar Hadada, where part of Star Wars/The Phantom Menace was shot. This Ksar was really really great. Actually it was much more interesting than Ksar Ouled Soltane. The buildings were partially woven into each other by Corridors, etc.

Ksar Haddada - Where the last Star Wars movie was made (at least part of it) Ksar Haddada Ksar Haddada
Ksar Haddada Another Ksar on our way to Ksar Haddada, where we unfortunately did not note the name down. Does anybody know the name?

On our way to Medenine, we discovered another,non-touristic Ksar: Ksar Joumaa. It was a quite large Ksar on top of a hill. We climbed up on foot (5-10 minutes), but it seems to be possible to climb up by car from the back. It was a very nice place, and off the beaten track a bit.

Ksar Joumaa from far away: Should we climb up all that way? Really worth the climbing tour. Nobody here except us!

Then we went over Medenine to the island Djerba. In Medenine we learned that the best klims (woven & embroidered tapestry) can be found in Gabes and Oudref (near Gabes). In Djerba we found a two star hotel by the beach: Hotel Zahra in the hotel complex Hotel Dar Djerba. It cost 34 Dinars per person for half pension. The beach was really great, with white sand and palm trees. The hotel complex was a bit huge, but the food and drinks were nice.

Date-sellers by the street - We bought 2 kilos, 2.5 Dinars each. Really delicious!
